Everyone has heard of volcanos. They spew gasses into the atmosphere, ash, lava, and are generally just fiery mountains of destruction. But have you ever heard of a super volcano? Most haven't. When a normal volcano is formed, a trail of magma splits off from the earths core, and when it reaches the earth's crust, they explode and send gasses for hundreds of miles. But with super volcanos, they start out the same, but they can't break the earths crust. Magma builds up for hundreds of thousands of years in huge magma chambers until it blows. When that happens, volcanic ash is spewed thousands of miles, and sulfuric gasses encase the entire planet. Total planetary destruction.
Something else most people don't know is beneath Yellowstone Park, one of the world's largest super volcanos lies, waiting to blow. The land is bulging everyday. It's on a 600,000 year schedule, and the last one was 640,000 years ago. It's set to go off any day.
As is the San Andreas fault in San Fransisco caused the massive earthquake in 1906, and is also set to go off any day...
Then one sunny day, it does. The city of San Fransisco is destroyed. But with all the relief effort in San Fransisco, no one notices what else got disrupted by the earthquake. Yellowstone is rumbeling, and then, it blows. Everyone in the western USA dies almost instantly. As the smoke travels across North America and the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, thousands choke on the ash that becomes cement in their lungs. The cloud blocks out the sun's warmth, and the world is in a new ice age.
But one small town in Britain was quick enough to last. They got in their winter coats, grabbed gas masks, and all took shelter in the plant vault. The plant vault is this huge underground vault that scientists stored 25% of the world's seeds and counting for the future in case we either run out of that food or can't grow it anymore. Then, we'll have some seeds for the future. When they came out a week later, they were the sole survivors. They have canned food from the grocery stores, all of the seeds from the plant vault and some of them have lasted in very harsh and cold weahter but it's never been this cold. How long can this tiny band of susrivors really last?
